Wolverhampton Saturday 19/11/2021

A couple of boring snoring prices followed by an EW cracker. Any further tips for Saturday are likely to be released via Twitter where I am @equinetipster.

1m½f (1m142y) Coral Proud To Support British Racing EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div I) (Class 5) (2yo)

The Charlie Appleby trained Symbol Of Light get the nod here. Charlie is in legendry form with a 42% strike rate in the last 14 days with 8 wins from 19 runners. His 2yo run well on the all-weather tracks with a 26% strike rate this GB season.

At the time of writing there are no prices available but I would expect quite a short price.

Symbol of light raced very well on his second run last time out running over course and distance.  The race was over course and distance.  He came out of the rail stall at a very fast rate and went to the lead. At Wolverhampton the turns are quite tight and he had no problems tackling them on the rail.  Trying to make all suited him and he wasn’t put off by briefly having to stalk.  He races well in close quarters with other horses and was workmanlike in his manner.  Even though the laptop screen was a bit blurry because of the rubbish internet I did notice his shoulders looked quite powerful.

His grandad was Street Cry who is one of the best influences a horse can have when it comes to its ability to handle an all-weather surface.

The manner of his last victory was very impressive and a 7lb penalty is unlikely to stop him this time.

At this moment in history it seems like madness to back against Charlie Appleby.

Charlie’s horses tend to improve a great deal for their first run and I can’t see why this one would be an exception.

Last time out on his debut Yantarni raced over 7f on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket.  He got away slowly and raced near the back. As they started up the slope about 3f out he started to look like the penny was dropping and he performed very well in the last 3f. He was unleashed properly 2f out and overtook the rest of the field bar the winner in the next 1 1/2f.  He has stamina and pace when needed but will appreciate a longer trip so this will suit.  Even though this Dubawi colt got away slowly last time he came on well at the end to take second.

I have a slight worry regarding how slowly he got away last time as he is drawn quite wide but it is likely Yantarni will learn from the previous race and improve as it was probably where he was green.

Having rode him on his debut James Doyle is back in the saddle.  He did well on him last time and will know exactly what is required this time.

6f (6f20y) ~Betyourway At Betway Handicap (Class 5) (3yo+ 0-70)

Progeny of Oasis Dream enjoy running on the AW and Give ‘Em The Slip is no exception.  When isolated by itself her all weather form reads 3,3,2. If you combine the losing distances for those three races the total is 3 ¾ lengths and she lost the last one by a neck. The best performance came on standard ground and I think she enjoys a fast surface as her best RPR rating came on good to firm over 6f.

This totally unexposed 3yo is trained by Charles Hills who has won about 1 in 6 races with 3yo on the aw this GB season.

Experience will make a difference coming out of the plum draw and Andrea Atzeni looks just the ticket. As long as the filly breaks well she will do well.  She dwelt at the start last time and looking back through the form this looks out of character.

She seems to be versatile and able to run 6f or 7f.  This may make a difference if she gets fanned wide on the first turn as she will have extra stamina up her sleeve compared to some of the others.
