Racing on 9/5/2022
I have decided to look at the evening cards today.
The first runner tonight will be Ar Mest. The 9yo Gelding has been performing consistently well since he returned to chasing producing three second places from four runs. He may well have won his last chase at this distance in 2021 if he had not been hampered by a faller.
Radio Goo Goo is my next selection tonight. I always prefer to look to the horses with more experience in a race like this. I think she can get the better of Katey Kontent who is carrying a penalty for winning in a slower time than Radio Goo Goo ran in defeat last time. Katey Kontent may have won first time out but she beat two horses that broke slowly.
Percussion had some headgear applied last time and it appeared to bring some serious improvement to the 7yo. He won his last race by 15 lengths in a great time and the handicapper took a stern view raising him 9lb. We can be sure he has bags of stamina as he won on heavy ground over 3m2f so the rise in weight on ground he enjoys should be within his grasp.
Royal Aviation gets the nod in the next race I looked at. This 3yo son of American Pharoah won the first handicap he contested last time out. Having kept on well in the final furlong after running a decent time on standard to slow I see him as still a little under exposed and he should run much better on turf.
Game Master is an interesting EW play that should at least give us a good run for our money. Godolphin horses always seem to come on for the run. His sire postponed has only had winners on good to firm and the aw as he has not produced many progeny yet. Sunday silence his sire on the mother's side produces better 3yo then 2yo which suggests he may be a different proposition to when last seen. The fantastic Hollie Doyle is in the saddle so we can count on a good intelligent ride from the jockey.
She rides my next selection too. Haggas is a legend at training 3yo and Punda Maria has the twin joys of the best draw and bottom weight in her favour. She will be fresh after a small break and should enjoy hearing her hooves rattle off the surface. Both Oasis Dream and Trippi have produced horses that love the good to firm. I expect a decent run and the price has been backed in from 6/1 to 7/2 with no NR.
