York 13/5/2022

It’s an interesting card at York today and I spent a lot of time studying last night. There are a lot of big fields and the draw is important. Big fields can be a minefield but good value can often be found. I am not tipping in the first race at York. It looks very hard to pick a winner. It’s worth considering Pillow Talk and Yahsat in your placepots though.

The Gosden trained Grande Dame gets the nod in the 2.25. She has a fantastic draw and with Frankie Dettori on board should be able to make the most of the chance it presents. Winning a class 3 at Ascot over the same distance in her first race at the end of April she is likely to improve for the run.

I think Summa Peto has an EW chance in the 3.00. There has been support in the market since last night with no real price drops. This could possibly indicate people going for the ew steal or enough bets of significant value coming in to maintain the price but not to drop it. She has a significant draw advantage over most of the others. Today’s jockey Graham Lee has been doing well this season when he has been riding 4yo+ horses on turf. She has come 1st and 2nd on her last 2 runs achieving  a great time in the latter.

In the 3.35 the legendry Stradivarius runs and will have a hard time taking on Search For A Song and Max Vega. I hope Stradivarius turns out to be a Persian Punch style never give up gritty warrior but I do worry he should have been retired at the end of last year.

Speycaster runs at 4.10. Whilst the Godolphin pair are likely to mount a significant challenge they are badly drawn. He runs from a great post position and barring his first run has finished 313 in his other races. Staying on at the end of his last race it would seem the 1m4f today should suit and I have no worries regarding the rise in class.

Mossbawn is my solution to the 4.45. He finished third by half a length to Il Bandito last time racing in a good time. There has been money for him and his price has dropped below an ew price but he is still worth taking a chance on and may look like good value with the benefit of hindsight.

The 5.20 is another difficult looking race and Meredif and Korker are good placepot choices.
