William Buick rides Suanni in the first but I’m giving it a swerve. Suanni won his race on good to firm and his sires progeny are not noted for their love of any cut in the ground. He may not handle the soft conditions and I feel there is little value in the price due to the circumstances of the jockey championship and the amount of popular support he is receiving.
It’s worth taking a chance on Hi Meh Darling to thwart Buick’s attempt to get one up on Oisin in this one. She has sheepskin cheek pieces fitted for the first time and it could well bring on significant improvement considering she has been raced up to Listed level previously. She had a good race in a small class 3 finishing second whilst staying on over good to soft so she should handle soft ok. Her trainer Iain Jardine has been in cracking form the last week and can add another one to the tally here.

Top weight Sky Blue Pink only won a class 4 6f Novice race on the all-weather by a neck last time and the 6lb penalty could be a bit steep.
William Buick rides Noteable who is sired by Profitable. Profitable won a group 1 race on soft ground and a group 2 and a group 3 on good to soft. His progeny seem versatile and act as well on good to firm they do on the soft according to the figures so far. Noteable did well last time out leading then just getting beat by ½ length in a class 4 on good to soft right at the end. It turned out she may not have been well in herself that day as she had blood coming from a nostril. The leading pair still put in a decent time though. The trainer will have made sure she is well and we should see improvement. William can gain one on Murphy here with potentially a classy sprinter underneath him.

This is the first of the races where both the champion jockey’s elect have a ride. William Buick rides chairmanoftheboard and Oisin Murphy is on Beyond Equal. Although Beyond Equal has been backed in from 16’s to 12’s I think this is probably the Oisin effect in action. Chairmanoftheboard has a genuinely good chance but I think he can be beaten by Air Raid who is going well after his wind surgery.
