Chelmsford Buick vs Murphy 14/10/2021

William Buick vs Oisin Murphy At Chelmsford

Oisin Murphy’s lead is shortening by the day and he is only two ahead at this point.  I’ve been comparing their rides each day and posting accordingly.  We have had some good winners this week.  Let’s see if we can find some more today.  I don’t mind who wins as I think they are both excellent.  I think Buick might win the title but it’s very close to call.

They have decided to go and race on the all-weather today at Chelmsford.

Both jockeys have decent horses here.

Oisin rides Single minded. The only time the grey has encountered an all-weather surface he put in probably his best run of the season to go down by a neck in a class 5 ran over 1m ½ f. The race was at Wolverhampton but there is no reason that he will not enjoy Chelmsford just as much. Last time out at Ffos Las he got bumped at the start and never really recovered. I guess we can discount that run.  He has not been lighting up the world with the rest of his results this year though.  There is a possibility he might actually prefer the surface to turf but this feels highly unlikely as Caravaggio’s progeny have never won on the all-weather surface.  15 different horses have tried a total of 20 times.  That’s a pretty damning stat.

Buick is in the saddle for Alpine Lady. The second in a class 4 Novice stakes at Ripon in August highlighted the fact that with a clear run and no issues she should welcome this longer trip.  She needs to be able to use her stamina more and the extra 2f will really help her today. She was doing good work at the end of the last race.  She ran her race on the rail and when she went for the start of her run the gap closed.  She had to go across the track to get going and by then it was too late. This one is the progeny of another sire who has never had an all-weather winner.  The stat is less severe in his case as it is 5 horses running 6 times.  Her half-brother Hunterview from the same dam has won once on the surface.

I have probably wrote a little too much for this race and I would have to say I prefer Alpine Lady at the price and the distance.

I wrote far too much about the first race so to keep on schedule I will have to be more concise.

Buick is not racing against Murphy in this one.  I like Typical Woman.  She only just lost out last time in a class 4 fillies Maiden by 1 length and can redeem herself here.  She had difficulty loading and was headed in the last half furlong. This race is conveniently half a furlong shorter than the last. She can progress and build on the experience. If she can be just a bit more chilled out at the start it will really help her cause. Progeny of Nathaniel have no problems running on the all-weather.

The Saeed bin Suroor trained Ramadhaan looks the one to be on here. He has been supported in the market coming from 6/4 to 5/4. There is a danger in the form of Al baahy who has been backed from 7/2 to 15/8.  Buick knows he needs every win he can and will be milking every bit of ability from Ramadhaan. His young sire Ribchester has already had some success on the all-weather surface so he should take to it well. Ramadhaan was inconvenienced at the start last time and dropped in at the back by Buick.  He raced well enough and the penny seemed to drop a little too late for the victory as he started running on at the end but drop it did none the less.  I agree with the commentator in that race he looks like a promising one. 7f should suit him down to the ground.

Both Riknnah and Discover Dubai look good in this one but I prefer Riknnah. When it comes down to it Riknnah has already won three times and as low mileage as Discover Dubai is she has had enough opportunities to score.  Two of Riknnah’s wins came on the all-weather and in this company he has an excellent chance of returning to form under a determined ride from Buick.  He is only up 3lb for his last win so he should be weighted to win as long as he has had some progression.

Lord Lovelace is a deeply boring price.  It should be exciting however watching him put his all-weather experience to good use. Buick will know this one should be a shoe in a will ride accordingly. He did well winning his debut at Kempton and was not disgraced coming second to a good one over course and distance last time with the third place winning next time out.

I have eyes for only one horse in this when I look at the betting.  There has been a monster market move on the Simon and Ed Crisford trained Far Hope coming in from 11/1 to 13/2.  I love a good run of money on a horse and I love to be involved if I think it has a chance.  William must fancy his chances on this one. This is a low mileage 3yo with good consistent form who has been placed previously on the all-weather. Sounds like an exciting EW bet.

Oisin and Willian will have trouble winning this one. I think Smart Connection can shoulder his penalty after scoring at Lingfield on the all-weather in good fashion last time out off the back of another run where he was in good form where he came second by 2 1/4.

I am very, very short of time now so I will have to conclude this entry here.
